Obituary

Adrienne Delois Young Withers was the youngest child born to the late James and Jesse Young on July 28, 1948. Adrienne was preceded in death by her husband Jerome; her parents James and Jesse Young; and her brothers and sisters Alfred, Charles, Dorothy Young & JoAnne Walls. To her brother and sister, she was affectionately called 'AD'; to her nieces and nephews, she was 'Aunt A'; and to her co-workers, family and friends she was 'Miss A'. On Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 6:25 pm, Adrienne transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly reward.

Adrienne accepted Jesus Christ as a child, being baptized at Second Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J. M. Kennedy.

Adrienne was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, graduating from West Charlotte Senior High School Class of 1965. She attended Johnson C. Smith University, and graduated from Fayetteville State University where she obtained a bachelors in education. After graduation, she was employed with the City of Charlotte as a social worker. Adrienne was initiated into the Charlotte Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

On April 2, 1979, Adrienne was united in holy matrimony with Jerome Withers and to this union two beautiful daughters, Jessica Leigh and Jennifer Lynne were born.

After the death of Jerome in 1988, Adrienne worked as a parent educator to single mothers for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools until 1997. In 2005, she was hired as a customer service representative for US Airways (later becoming American Airlines). Working in the airline industry gave her an opportunity to travel the world, and develop long lasting friendships. She traveled with her buddies to many islands in the Caribbean, Cuba, Dubai, Europe, and even 'down under' to Australia. She was tagged the international/national cosmopolitan traveler by her sister Ro. She was also spotted in the audience of 'Dancing with the Stars'.

Fond memories will forever be cherished by her children Jessica affectionately known as Dusty and Jennifer affectionately known as Tootie (Chalom Pittman Jr.); stepson Jerome Jr; her beloved grandchildren Jordan, Chalom III, and Chase; her brother George (Otelia); her sisters Roberta (William) Bond, and Lil' Debbie (Deborah). Others to share in these memories are special nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of brother & sisters in-law. To our other family members and friends, let's keep Adrienne forever in our hearts.
