Aerris Brazzell Smith, 59, of Lake Wylie, SC passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Charlotte, NC.

Aerris Brazzell Smith, age 59, departed this life on June 2, 2026, following a tragic accident in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though his passing leaves a profound void, his legacy of faith, service, strength, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Born on July 5, 1966, in Columbus, Georgia, to Albert Smith and Deloris Brooks, Aerris was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and attended Morgan State University. He honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1994 as an Inventory Management Journeyman. Following his military service, he worked as a Detention Officer with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department from 1995 to 2005 before pursuing a successful career as an Owner-Operator in the transportation industry.

A man of faith, Aerris attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was known for his kindness, integrity, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

Above all, Aerris cherished his family. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his beloved wife, Markita L. Smith; his children, Stephanie Butler, Aerris Smith II (Callie), and Aaron Smith (Alexis); his cherished granddaughter, Brooklynn Hope Smith; his mother, Deloris Brooks; his brothers, Dwain (Shawanda) Smith Sr. and Skylier (Hope) Smith Sr.; his sisters, Sonja Rogers Lewis and Ericka (Wendell) Jenkins; his uncle, Michael (Gina) Ogletree Sr.; his aunt, Mary Lattimore; his sisters-in-law, Barbara (Kirby) Small, Norma (Franklin) Spivey, and Shirley (Tyrone) Simmons; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Aerris enjoyed playing racquetball, working out, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor, generosity, and the genuine love he shared with everyone he met.

While our hearts are saddened by his loss, we are comforted by the memories he leaves behind and the example of a life well lived.
