Obituary

Ms. Akilah Masika Hunter (KiKi) was born March 12, 1978 in Charlotte, NC to Linda H. Baldwin. She had a loving stepfather, Julius Baldwin, Jr. and sister Jeronica in the immediate family. She departed this life on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
She attended school in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system and graduated from Midwood High. As a young child she was introduced to Christ and would join her grandmother, Curlene Y. Hunter at Parkway Church of Christ. KiKi's love for God resulted in her being baptized at the age of 10 at Westside Church of Christ now known as Mt. Island Church of Christ where she was still a member. She was a teacher in the Lord's church for a number of years.
KiKi started her career in early childcare that she worked in for several years. Coming from a family of nurses, she had a very nurturing, caring spirit that led her to careers in companion care with Home Instead and in Security. Some of her favorite jobs were working for Atrium Health Hospital and Aldersgate serving patients and their families. She became very popular for her great customer service skills and prayed for patients as they exited the hospital and invited them to church service. She was even featured on the hospital channel where she was filmed and interviewed. KiKi also had her own business designing and painting her own T-shirts.
Her hobbies were cooking, painting, train riding, and traveling to places like Cozumel Mexico on a cruise, the Georgia Aquarium, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, NY, and the mountains.
Although KiKi battled several illnesses during her life, her spirit never faltered and she remained faithful to God.  At her home congregation, KiKi had an evangelistic ministry before her health declined.  She handed out flyers, did door knocking, and invited people to worship services.
She had a group of followers on Tic Tok that she supported and encouraged as they battled kidney disease and major health issues.
KiKi loved her family, friends, and most importantly her relationship with God.  She is survived by her mother, Linda Baldwin, sister Jeronica Baldwin, stepfather Julius Baldwin, Jr., half-brothers, Rodney and Gowoin Dickson, half-sister Efaye Dickson, aunts, Patsy Auguste, Shirley Patterson, Brenda Mingo (Bobby), Verlene Reel, a host of cousins, friends, and family.
A special thank you to friends, Melany French, Valerie Lyles, Cheryl Graham, Mr. Lacey Everett, Elder Whitecotton, Regina Dolphus, Gloria Reeves, and Don Smith.
