Alice Lee James Glenn, affectionately called "Ailee" by the family, was born July 10, 1933, in Rock Hill, SC to the late Robert Hall and Bertha James, the second oldest of eight siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tommy James, Sr., Johnny James, Charles James and her two sisters, Josephine Johnson, and Patricia James. Alice was received into Glory on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center in Ft. Mill, SC. Alice attended Biddleville Elementary school and West Charlotte Senior High School where she played basketball.
Alice graduated from West Charlotte with the Class of 1951. She
loved all sports and was an avid league bowler. Her team won a great amount of team championship trophies, as well as Alice won her share of individual trophies, including one for the highest
score of 206!
Alice loved to travel domestically. In addition to her frequent
trips to Myrtle Beach, SC one of her favorite trips was the church's trip to Niagara Falls. Her family took her to St. Augustine and Palm Coast, Florida for her 86th and 87th birthdays,
respectively and to Myrtle Beach (her favorite beach) for her 90th
birthday.
Alice's employment span decades, with her first employment being with H.K. Porter and her retiring from Converse Rubber Co. Distribution Center in 1999 after 26 years. Alice was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church before joining Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she answered the call to salvation and received Christ as her Lord and Savior. She faithfully served as an usher, as well as on Circuits #1 and #2, Missionary Group #3, and the Rain Ministry. Her serving ministry expanded outside the walls of the church where she and her sister Patricia would visit the sick and shut-in family members and minister to their needs. She faithfully served up until her health was affected.
Cherishing her loving memories, Alice is survived by her three
daughters, Patsy Covington (Darryl), Verlene Sawyers (Warren) of Charlotte NC, Joyce James of Ft. Mill SC; brother, Chaplain Sylvester James, Sr; sister, Lottie Norris; four grandsons, Andre' James (Josephine), Antoine James, Lindsey Stephens, Jr., Darian Covington (Jamette); two granddaughters, Taylor James, Alicea Patterson (Nickolus); six great grandsons, Jontez Thompson, Jayden Covington, Jai'Vin Covington, Jaisahn Covington, Boden Patterson, Azai Patterson; one great granddaughter, Nariah Wilson; one great-great grandson, Zyire Thompson; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
