Mr. Alonzo Blount, 79 of Matthews, passed away on Tuesday November 26, 2019 at Novant Health Presbyterian-Matthews.  He was born on September 18, 1940 in Washington, DC.  He was the only child of Haddie and Johnnie Mae Blount.  He earned his bachelor of science in engineering from North Carolina A&T University where he met Willie Mae Pulley.  They were married for 57 years.

Alonzo was enlisted in the United States Army as a second lieutenant.  After finishing his stint in the Army, Alonzo and Willie Mae made their home in Dayton, Ohio.  Alonzo was a civilian engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and they lived there for 30+ years.  In 2008, they moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina and relocated to Charlotte in December of 2017.

Alonzo loved to travel and the Blount family spent many summer vacations traveling across the United States in their Pace Arrow.  Alonzo and Willie Mae visited almost all 50 of the states via, car, camper, train and plane.  He also enjoyed photography and visiting Navy ships.  Upon retirement, Alonzo became quite busy as a handyman throughout the community.  He was the self-proclaimed, Dr. Al, Your Fix-it Pal who thoroughly enjoyed fixing and/or improving people's homes.  He will clearly be remembered for his loud laugh, love of food, music, dancing and family.

Although his latter years brought the challenge of dementia, he remained strong and God enabled him to remember his children and wife until he was called home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
