Alvernia Austin Beasley (Vernia) was born on February 5, 1936 to the late Charlie Day and the late Annie Bell Walker. She was raised by the "powerful hands" of her grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Vaughn and Mary Etta (Mae) Martin who imparted in her the ways of God.
She gave her life to Christ at a very young age, was baptized at Union Chapel United Church of Christ, in rural North Carolina where she was faithful in attendance, bible study, singing in the choir, worshipping, and growing in the knowledge of the Lord.
In later years, after re-locating to the Washington, D.C. area she united with Mount Sinai Baptist Church we she served for thirty-seven years on the Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, and sang with the Hymn Choir.
After retirement, she relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina and united with Ebenezer Baptist Church where served in the Missionary Ministry, the Hymn Choir, and was faithful in studying the Word on Sunday as well as during the Senior Saints Bible class on Tuesdays and the Senior Adult Ministry (S.A.M.) class on Thursdays. She remained faithful with study through Zoom during her illness.
Alvernia attended Pleasant Grove Elementary school in rural North Carolina and graduated from Jordan Sellars High School, in Burlington, N.C. She was employed in food services for several years at "Southern Grill". While in Maryland, she was employed by "McArdle Painting (Graphics Arts) asmanager fo thirty years where she received numerous awards and accommodations.
Mother/Grandmother was bold in her love and conviction of the Lord and her family. She was a no-nonsense person but that did not take away from her love of a good laugh (She loved to crack jokes, joning on you and then laugh her heart out). An avid leader, she enjoyed all kinds of literature and books and could intelligently converse on many topics. Sewing, quilting, researching topics on the computer, baking and enjoying "GOOD" food; she was all for trying a variety of restaurants and different cuisines. She especially enjoyed holidays and birthdays celebrating with family and friends. She was very proud of accomplishing the completing of three lovely quilts she so proudly gave to Danita, Tamara, and Troy to be cherished in her memory.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Beasley; great grandchild, Duane M. Richmond; one sister, Betty Torain; and three brothers, George P. Martin, Charlie, Jr. Day, and Floyd Martin.
