Mr. Andrew Bolden, 94, son of the late Hattie Lomax, was born August 25, 1925 in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. He was raised by his aunt Ethel Bolden Sanders and her husband Isaac and LaBell bolden Mills. He departed this life on June 3, 2020, at Levine Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Andrew grew up working on a farm in South Carolina, when he became of age, he set out on an adventure to see more of what the world had to offer. He traveled to California to work during the World War II as a civil servant. After some time on the west coast he returned to the east coast by train to Charlotte, North Carolina. He worked various jobs until he connected to a plumber who taught him the trade. He eventually, completed the licensure process becoming the first African-American licensed plumber in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Anyone who had the pleasure to sit and talk with Andrew, who we all lovingly called "Poppi", can share any number of stories that he would tell about his life adventures. Poppi enjoyed fishing and gardening, he would freely share his harvest with anyone as long as it lasted. He was a man who could hold a conversation of worth and value with anyone he would meet. To know him was to love him.
On March 14, 1948 Andrew Bolden married Evelyn Elizabeth Reid, who preceded him in death. To this union was born three children: a daughter Joyce Barrino, who preceded him in death; and two sons James Allen Bolden, who preceded him in death, and Philandis Bolden.
Mr. Andrew Bolden leaves to cherish wonderful memories: his son Philandis (Edith), daughter-in-law Annie Bolden all of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren Derick White, Lisa Bolden, Evangela Bolden, Rhonda Bolden, Julian Barrino and Meredith Bolden, all of Charlotte, NC, Chandres Bolden of San Antonio, Texas and Darryl Bolden of Jacksonville, Florida.
