Anita Louise Tate, 81, daughter of the late Bertha P. (Boozer) Tate and Joseph C. Tate, was born on January 18, 1940 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the second of four daughters raised in a loving Christian home. She departed this life on December 9, 2021.
Anita's family originated from South Carolina. Her maternal family from Newberry and her paternal family from Cross Hill. Both sides of her family ultimately relocated to NC, arriving in Charlotte in the early 1900s.
Anita's early childhood years were spent in the Third Ward neighborhood of Charlotte where the family had long time ties to Gethsemane Baptist Church. In the early 1980's, the Tate family became charter members of Reeder Memorial Baptist Church.
Anita was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system, and was a proud 1957 graduate of West Charlotte High School. Anita furthered her education at Central Piedmont Community College.
Anita was employed as an LSM clerk with the US postal service for 23 years before retiring in 1989. She was often praised for her meticulous work habits and her attention to detail. It was said by many that she had a memory "like an elephant" as she could quickly recite the zip codes assigned to any City or Town within the state.
In recent years, Anita enjoyed participating in activities with her classmates, especially at their monthly lunch meetings. She was a regular participant at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church's weekly mid-day bible study. Anita previously served on Reeder's Usher board and was a volunteer driver with Charlotte's Meals on Wheels program.
In her free time, Anita was an avid reader and especially enjoyed watching westerns and court shows. She looked forward to family gatherings, always embracing the opportunity to dance and fellowship with her sisters.
Anita was preceded in everlasting life by sons: Terry Tate and Scott Tate. Left to cherish her memories: her son, Gregory Tate (Nikki); daughter-in-law, Tamara Tate; sisters, Betty Grier, Sandra Simpson and Patricia McCormick (David), grandchildren, DeSean Thomas, Terrance Tate (Allicia), Courtney Kimble, Desmond Tate, Gregory Tate Jr., Aliyah Tate and Jordan Tate, great-grandchildren, Aiden Tate, Aubrey Tate, Ashton Tate, Cree Hawkins, Declan Thomas, Taryn Thomas, Theodore Tate, nieces, Patresia Borden (Chris), Rhondra Simpson, nephews, William Black (Susan), Ronnie Simpson, Jamon Brown; and a host of extended family and friends.
