Mr. Anthony Marcellus Baptiste Sr., 75, of Charlotte NC, departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Atrium Cabarrus.

Anthony Marcellus Baptiste, Sr., affectionately known as "Beber," "Tony," and "T.O.," was born on January 9, 1948, in the Gonzales region of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.  After a brief battle with cancer, Anthony passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at age 75, in Charlotte, NC.

Anthony was raised in Gonzales by his parents, Raymond and Glenna Baptiste, along with his brother Douglas and sister Greta.  Beber, the name given to him by his older brother Douglas and known to all in Trinidad, had a passion for soca music, sports, and running the streets of Gonzales.  Beber was known for getting into mischief with his friends.  He would skip school and hang out all night planning fetes and island hopping.  He loved music, playing the steelpan, and of course, he loved to party!  As a young boy, he attended Escallier Anglican Primary School, then went on to obtain a degree in Mathematics from Progressive College of Trinidad and Tobago.

In 1968, Anthony moved to the United States to explore new opportunities and to start a new life.  While working in New York for Clover Industrial, he met Roberta Bradley.  They went on to marry in 1972 and moved to Richmond, VA where they would spend most of their lives before moving to Atlanta, GA, and then settling in Charlotte, NC.  Anthony,  or Tony, as Roberta called him, worked over 2 years at Westvaco Corporation as a Lead Machine Operator.  Tony was a hard working man who loved his family.  He was known for his charm and humor.  There was not a place he could go without making new friends.  Tony had a passion for cooking West Indian dishes.  His curry chicken was everyone's favorite.  He would cook for family, friends, neighbors and all who requested his oxtails, curry goat and chicken.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Glenna Baptiste, and his big brother, Douglas Baptiste.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Roberta Baptiste; sister, Greta Busby (David); children, Sean Baptiste, Sheldon Baptiste, Shurland Baptiste (Estella), Shawn Sanderson, Anthony Baptiste, Jr. (Tonette), LaTonia "Nikki" Baptiste, Tamitra Avion Burnette; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family expanding across the Unites States, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.

Anthony was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.  He was truly loved by all whose lives he touched.
