Mr. Anthony Jerome Carter, affectionately known as Tony, was born on June 20, 1958, in Chicago, IL. He passed away peacefully at his home in South Charlotte on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the age of 67.

Tony was raised in Chicago and went on to graduate from Elizabeth City State University in 1985. A true social butterfly, he had a natural gift for striking up conversations with anyone. Known for his candor, Tony never shied away from speaking hard truths and lived his life with unapologetic authenticity. He loved deeply and made a constant effort to stay connected with those he cared about.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Lee Carter, his father, Willie Williams, his brothers Sylvester Carter and Leonard Freeman, and his sister, Lena Allen.

Tony leaves behind his beloved life partner, Joyce Sturdivant; his daughter, Michelle Carter Minkah; his sons, Anthony Carter and Austin Patillo; and his cherished newborn granddaughter, Ninaya Minkah, whom he was blessed to hold in his arms just weeks before his passing.

He is also survived by his siblings: Lewis Carter, Ronnie Carter, Margaret Ware, Melinda Carter, Theresa Howard, and Cynthia Carter—as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends."
