Obituary

Antonio Eugene Crawford, 52, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

The son of James Hoyt Crawford Sr. and Ernestine Wilkerson Crawford, Antonio “Tony” Eugene Crawford, was born on October 22, 1973, and departed this life on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Tony loved his family and the Lord. He actively participated in several roles in churches that he attended. Tony’s personality never allowed him to meet a stranger. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Tarheels fan. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and uncle who had a patient and loving spirit. He dedicated himself to his two grandchildren by pouring into them. He enjoyed teaching them the beauty of music, the quiet joy of fishing and being proud of their heritage.

He was well-known, loved and respected by many in the community. Tony was educated at West Mecklenburg High School. He decided to further his studies while attending St. Augustine’s University of Raleigh, NC and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was employed by Hertz rental car and later became an entrepreneur of various ventures. He even became his sister-in-law’s (Trinia) personal assistant.

Tony leaves to cherish one son, Shakeel Mackey (Zayn); two grandchildren, Pharaoh and Shakeel Jr. Mackey; three brothers, James Crawford Jr. (Betrinia), Darryl Crawford, and Mark Crawford (Shayla); aunts and uncles, Virginia C Spears, Felton Crawford (Hattie), Delores C. Lowry (Jesse), Lettie C. Holland (Toussaint), Carl Crawford (Pamela) and Linda Crawford, Georgia Bethea of New Jersey, Mary Wilkerson, Naomi Wright, Hazel Wilkerson, Ruth Crowder, and Adine Reid; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and three very dear friends, Llewellyn “Mess” Hicks, Jay Leak, and Adriane Gates. Tony will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
