Mr. Arthur Tucker, 79 of Charlotte, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at White Oak Manor of Charlotte. He was born on June 17, 1941 in Newberry County, South Carolina to the late George Tucker Sr. and the late Artice Hunter Tucker.
Mr. Tucker attended Newberry County, SC Schools and later attended Cleveland, OH Public Schools where he graduated from Grenville High School in 1960. He continued his education by attending Benedict College in Columbia, SC where he graduated in 1964 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. While at Benedict College, Mr. Tucker became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Epsilon Epsilon Chapter. Mr. Tucker later attended the University of Detroit-Mercy where he earned a M.S. degree in Mathematics in 1966.
Mr. Tucker began his teaching career in the Cleveland (OH) Public Schools in 1964. While there, he met and married his wife of 56 years, Corrie Pearl Kibler Tucker in 1964.
The family moved to Charlotte, NC in 1972 where Mr. Tucker continued his career in education as a mathematics instructor in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system. He taught at Coulwood Middle School, Harding High School and West Charlotte High School. He also coached track and field at all three schools before finally retiring from the school system after 39 years.
Mr. Tucker was a dedicated husband and father to his three children. He was a constant fixture at the various ball games, school functions and church programs involving his children. Mr. Tucker also liked to cook. He enjoyed learning new recipes and cooking while using uncommon ingredients. Mr. Tucker was an avid gardener as well. He often would share bounty of his garden with extended family members, neighbors and friends.
Mr. Tucker attended Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church where he was a dedicated member for more than 30 years. During his membership, he held numerous positions within the church in addition to singing in the choir.
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Tracy Kenyon Tucker and brothers, James Tucker and George Tucker Jr.
Left to cherish his memory and legacy are his wife, Corrie; son, Todd A. Tucker; daughter, Tiffany A. Tucker-Phifer (Rod) and beloved granddaughter Sloane Kenyon Tucker, all of Charlotte, NC; brother, Henry Tucker (Kay) of Cleveland, OH; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
