Mr. Augustus Stewart Davidson, Jr., was born on December 29, 1951 and went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2017.
Gus was born in Princeton, West Virginia to the late Augustus Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Davidson. At the age of seven, his family moved to Paterson, New Jersey. He attended Paterson public school system.
Gus received the Lord at a very young age and started singing at The Bible Way Church in Patterson, New Jersey. He also sang with a group called the Northwind Gospel Singers, which consisted of his father and uncles at the age of 12. God imparted such a strong anointing on his voice that many were blessed by it.
Later in his adult life, he traveled abroad to Europe, Japan and the Virgin Islands and also preformed at numerous places in the United States. He was a part of the group called the Drifters, and briefly sung with the Platters. He was also a part of the Joneses, Main Attraction, and Chocolate Syrup. Singing was his passion. He was well known by many and deeply loved by his family and closest friends. After singing abroad and in the Tristate area, he settled in Charlotte, North Carolina where he joined St. Paul Baptist Church and became a member of the male chorus.
Gus was employed as a truck driver at Inland Seafood in Charlotte, North Carolina for many years before retiring in 2014.
He is preceded by his parents, Augustus Stewart and Mary Elizabeth Davidson, a daughter, Lisa Davidson, and a brother, Alvin Earl Davidson.
He leaves to mourn two sons, Jamal and Justin, one daughter, Brandi. He has 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Gus also leaves to mourn, 5 sisters, Tansy Davidson, Mamie (Terry) Johnson, Brenda (Craig)Shelton, Lois Spencer and Leona Davidson. He leaves a host of uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Gus loved the Lord and loved singing for the Lord. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His smile, his jokes, his laughter and most of all the twinkle in his eyes whenever he used the gift that was given to him by The Creator to make people know and feel love...
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Paul Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 12 noon until 1:00 p.m.
