Barbara Price Izzard, affectionately known as "Bobbie Mae," peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 23, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Thomas Reid (Betsy Reid) and Emma Knox Wallace (Calvin Wallace).
Barbara was a proud 1955 graduate of Second Ward High School and married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. Izzard. Their union was a testament to enduring love and was blessed with twin daughters and one son.
Throughout her life, Barbara's dedication to children, education, and community shone brightly. She was a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and passionately participated in the March of Dimes door-to-door campaigns. Her leadership was evident in her role as the organizer of the Girl Scouts programs at Grier Heights Presbyterian Church, University Park, and Wesley Heights Communities. She also served as Service Unit Chairman for the Hornets' Nest Girl Scout Council and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Awards and Recognition Committee, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Barbara's love for children inspired her to establish the Izzard Home Daycare after the birth of her first grandchild, a venture she successfully operated for over 48 years. In the early years of her daycare, Barbara closed during summers to direct the after-school program at Grier Heights Presbyterian Church, further cementing her role as a community pillar.
Barbara's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of both Victory Christian Center and Grier Heights Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon. She embraced numerous ministries, leading Vacation Bible School, Children's Church, and singing in the choir. Her spiritual strength and joyous spirit enriched every life she touched, spreading light and love wherever she went.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Izzard; daughter, Rosina Izzard; son-in-law, Ralph Bruce; parents, Emma Knox Wallace (Calvin Wallace) and Thomas Reid (Betsy Reid); sisters, Margaret Clifton and Claire Henderson; and brother, David Reid.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Rosita Bruce and Charles Izzard (Janice); her siblings, Thomas Reid (Cecelia), Gwendolyn Martin, and William "Ricky" Wallace; grandchildren, Carl Izzard (Stephanie), Ralph Tanner, Joy Chestnut, Charlise "Nikki" Clyburn (Donophan), Marquita Izzard, and Charleston Ross (Ticola); great-grandchildren, Joshua (Charisma), Taliah, Jamiyah, Karysn, Lauryn, Ralph Jr., Ray'monte, Caleigh, Carter, Donophan, Yara, and Yahseer; great-great-grandchildren, A'alani, Jachari, and Camiyah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
The family extends a special recognition to the Bratton family, former daycare children and families, and Girl Scouts for their unwavering love and friendship throughout Barbara's life. Your kindness and care have been a cherished blessing to her and to all of us.
Barbara "Bobbie Mae" Izzard lived a life of love, service, and unwavering faith. Her legacy of kindness, leadership, and devotion will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
