Barbara Ann Washington was born on August 11, 1953, in Goldsboro, North Carolina to David and Maggie Bell Washington. Barbara departed from this earthly life on November 20, 2024. Barbara grew up in Clinton, North Carolina and graduated from Clinton High School in 1971. In the fall of that same year, she became a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) and majored in Business Administration. She would later earn a Master's Degree.
After graduating from college, she went to work for the Federal Government in the Office of Comptroller of the Currency for thirty-five years. Her areas of expertise were insurance, operation risk, and international banking. Following retirement, she spent much of her time mentoring the young children and adults on financial and general life issues. She volunteered in these areas because of her heart and love for her fellow brothers and sisters.
While at UNCC, Barbara was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, December 2, 1972, as a Charter Member of Iota Rho Chapter. She was one of "Phenomenal Thirteen" women who spent hours building the Iota Rho Chapter. She was the third chapter president and was heavily involved in social action programs on the campus and in the community. She also joined the Charlotte Alumnae and Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapters where she engaged in sharing her financial knowledge and worked wit hthe Delta Academy program.
Barbara was always involved in the church from an early age after she gave her life to Christ at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, N.C. She also served faithfully for many years on various programs at the Victory Christian Center. Three of the noted programs were the "Book Table" which eventually became the "Bookstore", the development of workshops teaching students about finances and dedication to the church nursery.
Barbara was preceded in death by both parents. The immediate family that she leaves behind is three brothers, Charles, Weldon(Doris), and Douglas(Ruby); two nephews, Weldon II, and Wesley, one great-niece, Kelsey, and one great nephew, JaKai. She also leaves a great number of relatives and close friends.
