Barbara Ann West, 65, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Atrium Hospital Main.

Barbara "Bob" Ann Henderson West entered the world as the first child born to Freddie Lee Henderson and Helen Moultrie Henderson on December 4, 1959, in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She was affectionately known by her family and close friends as "Bob" or "Barbara Ann."

Her family has deep roots in the Mallard Creek area, and it was there that family members and friends instilled a deep, unwavering faith in God and one's responsibility to selflessly serve the community, especially those who may need a helping hand.  Barbara had a generous soul.

During her last days battling pancreatic cancer, she demanded, "Make sure the kids can come to see me and go out and buy them the very best Christmas gifts this year, each of them."  She would not think twice about giving you her last dime or the shirt off her back.

Barbara attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and completed her highest educational level at North Mecklenburg High School. Barbara always took great pride and joy in working and spending time with her immediate and extended family.  Early in her career, she tirelessly worked at Cannon Mills of Concord, NC, and, subsequently, Highland Mills of Charlotte, NC, to provide for her family.  She believed that hard work and a deep devotion to family always paid off.  One of her proudest moments was during the late 1980s, when, in addition to working a full-time job, she worked a second job to meet the income requirement to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home in Charlotte's Optimist Park community.

Over the past ten-plus years, Barbara was a devoted employee at Christ Lutheran Church, where she was greatly loved, admired, and respected.  It was widely known and heard that "No one works harder than Barbara and the Pastor of this church.  No one!"   Barbara was also the proud owner of a commercial cleaning service, which spanned nearly two decades.

On January 8, 2025, Barbara departed this life and leaves to cherish her memory: Daughters Barbara R. Henderson of Charlotte, NC, Jvonne Henderson of Charlotte, NC; sons Dr. Boris Henderson (Tiara) of Huntersville, NC, Donnell Henderson (Tiffany) of Charlotte, NC, and Ronnell Henderson (Melanie) of Rockhill, SC; siblings, Jacquline Verdell of Charlotte, NC, Carol Chisholm (Carlos) of Charlotte, NC. Barbara was blessed with 38 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and became a surrogate parent to eight other sons and daughters whom she loved dearly; many children affectionately loved her as a mother or grandmother.   She also leaves to cherish her memory, a plethora of nieces, nephews, friends, and other young people who loved her like a mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie Lee Henderson and Helen Moultrie Henderson, sisters Cathy Henderson, Catherine Henderson, Cynthia Henderson and Patricia Henderson.
