Barbara Ann McCain Young, affectionately known as "Barb", 77 of Midland, NC, departed this life on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center. She was born March 3, 1944 in Charlotte, North Carolina to her mother and father, Grant and Bessie Mae Mclver McCain. She lived at 204 Templeton Avenue in the Second Ward Community where she attended Second Ward Senior High School. After leaving home, she became a homemaker and a mother to five children. She later worked for the Charlotte Observer News. Later, Barb attended Central Piedmont Community College where she graduated and received certification as a legal secretary.
Barb, being raised in the church, was a woman of faith and reared her children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. She and her children joined First Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Upon the birth of Faith Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, Barb and her children became some of the first members. Barb served in the church's nursery because she loved taking care of kids, caring for at least five generations of children at Faith. Through the encouragement of Pastor Wilch Caldwell, Sr., Barb continued her education in the Urban League learning how to work various office machines. She served as Faith Memorial's secretary for twenty-three years under Pastor Caldwell. It can be said of Barb that she always had a smile and never talked about anyone. Whatever you told her stayed between you and her.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Simpson McCain.
Left to cherish her loving memories are, her beloved daughters: Selma Young Williams, Lisa Ann Young and Tammy Delphine McCain all of Charlotte, North Carolina; three sons: Sammy Lee Young of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Ricky Darnell Young and Reginald Lee Young of Charlotte, North Carolina; Her dear beloved sister, Nancy Lipscomb (William) of Charlotte, North Carolina; three loving brothers: Jerome McCain (Beverly), Alton McCain (Sarah) and O'Donald McCain all of Charlotte, North Carolina; 14 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild, along with a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
