Benjamin Franklin Hoover, 98, of Charlotte, NC, began his eternal life on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate.

Benjamin Franklin Hoover was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 26, 1926. He was the youngest of nine children born to the late William Harvey Hoover, Sr., and Nannie McGill Hoover.  He was raised in the close-knit community called "The Black Jack," now known as the Steele Creek community.

Benjamin attended Pineville High School which was located in his community. As a boy, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was proud that he had earned the Eagle Scout Award.

Prior to completing high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served during World War II as a rifleman.  He was presented the WWII Victory Medal and after two years of military service was honorably discharged.  Upon returning home from service, he completed his high school education through night school classes and thereafter attended Carver College studying drafting, blue printing and shoe repair.

Benjamin was a lifelong member of McClintock Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Historian, Treasurer of the Senior Choir and a member of the Men's Council.  Attending church was the highlight of his week.

Benjamin served as Worshipful Master of the Knights of the Guiding Star of the East.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years. He served as one of the former Presidents of the McGill Family Reunion, an organization he really loved.

No one was more important to Benjamin than his family.  He was married to Helen Wilkes Hoover; she was indeed the love of his life. Together they were proud parents of five children - two daughters, Linda and Gwen, twin sons, Roger and Richard, born on Father's Day in 1956, and their youngest son, Marcellus.  Benjamin was very supportive of his children throughout their lives.  He even served as PTA President during the early years of his children's elementary education.

Benjamin was a Godly man.  He was a gentleman, loving and kind, courteous, considerate, a genuine friend to many and held in high regard. He liked being well-dressed.  His smile was contagious.

In addition to his parents, Benjamin was preceded in death by all of his siblings - six brothers, Harvey Hoover, Jr., Andrell Hoover, Arthur John Hoover, William Hoover, Odell Hoover and Charles Lee Hoover; and two sisters, Pauline Hoover Coffey and Anna Hoover Christie. He was also predeceased by his son, Roger Anthony Hoover; son-in-love, Kenneth Taylor; brothers-in-love, Thomas Wilkes, Jr., Ingram Richmond and John Christie; and sister-in-love, Hazeline Wilkes Richmond.

Those left to cherish his fond and loving memories are his devoted and faithful wife of 75 years, Helen Wilkes Hoover; daughters, Linda Hoover McClain (Milas), and Gwen Hoover Taylor; sons, Richard Hoover (Sandra), and Marcellus Hoover (Cynthia); grandchildren, Sherman Hoover of Charlotte, NC, Kevin Taylor (April) of Odessa FL, Benjamin Taylor (Akira) and Jessica Swain (James) of Charlotte, NC, Raquel Crump (Jeremy) of Atlanta GA, Victoria Hoover and Allyson Hoover of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Trae Taylor and Alyssa Taylor of Odessa, FL, Jaleah Taylor and Kenneth Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Journee Crump and Jetson Crump of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-love, Goldine Witherspoon of Woodbridge, VA and Mildred Wilkes of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-love, Jackie Wilkes (Lucinda) of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
