Mr. Bennie Alexander Springs, 88 of Charlotte, transitioned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Atrium Health-Main. Bennie was born February 24, 1932 in Mecklenburg County to the late Dock and Maggie Davis Springs. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Mary Elizabeth Springs, Joseph Springs, Albert Springs, Willie Lee Springs, Beatrice Smith, Janie Hudson, James Springs, Mary Emma Ragland, Commodore Springs, Zachariah Springs, Sr., and Delsenia Houston.
A kind and gentle man determined to live a good life, accepted Christ in his life while attending the old Galilee Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his Bible in the mornings.
He attended Plato Price in Charlotte for grade school, junior high school and high school and also attended Carver College.
Mr. Springs, served his country honorably in the United States Army, wherein 1953 he saw active duty in the Korean War. While serving he received The Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was forever telling war stories to anyone that would listen. After completing military service, he came back home to Charlotte. Because work was hard to find he moved to New Jersey with relatives. He lived in New Jersey and New York areas for many years.
While living in New York he married and became a proud father of a precious little girl, Cheryl that he adored and a beautiful infant son, Alexander that preceded him in death. He was a member of the Lebanon Lodge No. 54, Celestial Chapter #29 Price Hall Order of the Eastern Star of Jamaica, New York. He worked for the New York City Highway Department for twenty years.
While he moved to Charlotte in 2001, he bought a house up the street from his dear sister Mildred, and started a cleaning business. He always had an excellent work ethic and kept things clean as a whistle. His very favorite saying were, "Slow but Sho" and "There's no Place Like Home".
He leaves to share the memories of his fruitful life: daughter, Cheryl Springs; adopted son Damon Jackson; grandchildren, William Springs, Kimberly Goodall (Shaun), Tywan Springs, Tiffany Springs and Emani Jones; seven great grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Mildred Ingram; dedicated nieces and nephew, Mrs. Debbie Springs Woodson, Mrs. Geraldine Springs, Mr. Gregory Smith and a Very Special Lady Friend Ms. Carrie Kennedy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bennie was a kind and gentle man and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest with your Jesus!
