Mr. Bernard Harvey Gaston, 67 of Charlotte, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at his residence. He was born January 28, 1953 in Charlotte, NC to the late John Lee Gaston Sr. and Edna Holman Gaston.  Bernard was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He received his early education in Charlotte Mecklenburg School system.  He graduated from Garinger High School in 1971 after attending West Charlotte High School for three years prior.  Next, he briefly attended Livingstone College but soon transferred to earn his Bachelor of Arts in History from Johnson C. Smith University in 1979.  After completing his education, Bernard worked for the Employment Security Commission and the state of North Carolina for 30 years.  He was an AAU parent chaperone, athletic volunteer, and active member of the Kiwanis Club of Charlotte.  After his retirement, he worked as an election poll worker and loved getting his community involved in voting.

Bernard was a faithful member of Statesville Avenue Presbyterian where his parents were Charter members.  He was an active member his entire life.  He faithfully served as a Boy Scout, Club Scout, Trustee, Deacon, Usher, Elder, Men's Choir member and President of the SAPC Men's Council.

Our beloved Bernard Harvey Gaston is survived by his children; Marcia Holder (Hardy) of Houston, TX, Felecia Gaston of Charlotte, NC and Renardo Gaston (Amanda) of Nashville, TN.  He also leaves behind his Uncle Raymond Holman (Margie) of Catawba, SC, his two brothers, William T. Gaston, Darryl R. Gaston (Melissa) of Charlotte, NC; his four grandchildren, Tia Black, Leah Holder, Christopher Strayhorn and Grace Gaston.  Most recently Bernard was elated at the idea of becoming a great grandfather and spoke about his upcoming travel plans to Houston with everyone that he knew.
