Ms. Betty Babb, 74 of Charlotte, passed away on Wednesday February 13, 2019 at her residence. Betty was the daughter of Marshall Buggs and Ophelia Buggs (whom proceeded her in death). She was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. She was the third of five children; Her Brothers are Levi Buggs (whom proceeded her in death) and Ernest F. Buggs, her sisters are, Patricia A. Buggs and Joyce Woods. She attended York Road High in 1962. She went on to move to New York where she worked at Metropolitan Hospital in Spanish Harlem where she studied to be a nurse and decided it wasn't for her, so became a elevator operator at the hospital and worked there until her retirement in 1984. While in New York, she met her husband of 46 years, Melvin Oliver Babb (whom proceeded her in death). The two of them worked together over the years as Successful Real Estate Entrepreneurs. They had 3 children: Wendell Craig Babb, Jamilah Ophelya Wirtenson and Fela Irene Babb. In September 1984 while on the train with her 3 kids heading back home to New York from visiting her family in Charlotte, NC; Betty suffered a massive brain Aneurysm that left her without 30 percent of her brain mass. The doctors told her family that if she survived, she would be in a vegetative state for the remainder of her life. Needless to say that was far from the truth. Thru the years, Betty endured various trails that should have made her give up; yet she didn't. In year 2014 Betty was baptized as one of Jehovah 's Witnesses after years of learning bible truths. She was ecstatic and very nervous at the same time because had a morbid fear of drowning. With fervent prayer and full reliance on Jehovah she was baptized. Throughout the years, Betty set an exemplary example for her family. She is survived by the aforementioned siblings and children as well as seven grandchildren: Mark Babb (Casey Cole), Britany Cole (Eric Cole), Mekeda Babb, Maggie Redmon (Johnathen Redmon), Brent Marshal Wirtenson, Bija Babb, Mercedez Babb, and three great grandchildren: Adrian Babb, John Levi Redmon and Evelyn Babb. Betty was so proud of her entire family and thru her words and actions, she truly mad Jehovah proud. She was personification of Ecclesiastes 7:1 "a good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth".
