Ms. Betty Massey, 70 of Charlotte, departed this life on Sunday, January 30, 2022.  She was born July 9, 1951 in Merced, California, daughter of the late Norma Dean Craig and Tennyson A. Harris Sr.  At an early age Betty enjoyed reading, music, and dancing.  Betty would relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina where she would be raised in a Christian home by her grandparents James and Eva Harris.  She graduated top of her class from Second Ward High School.  She went on to attend Johnson C. Smith University.  After attending Smith, Betty would marry the love of her life, James M. (Bay-Bay) Massey Sr.

From their union they birthed three children, James Jr., Damon and Alishia.  Betty worked a long career at Qualex before retiring in 2004.  After retiring she continue part-time work at Pitney Bowes and Intown Suites where she eventually retires as well.  Betty loved to watch movies and play computer games in her spare time.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James M. (Bay-Bay) Massey, Sr., her parents Norma Dean Craig and Tennyson A. Harris, Sr. Her brothers, Delbert Ray Craig and Elton Terry Nicks and Johnny Lee Stiger Jr.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories three Children, James M. Massey Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Damon V. Massey of Charlotte, NC and Alishia D. Massey (Andre') of Charlotte, NC.  One Stepson, Kevin D. Massey of Maryland.  Two Brothers Tennyson A. Harris Jr. (Rose) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Paul Anthony Newton (Loretta) of Stockton, California.  Two sisters, Paulette Newton-Garrett of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and Brenda J. Stiger Lewis of San Leandro, California.  One sister-in-law, Sheryl D. Massey of Monroe, North Carolina.  One granddaughter, Alyssa S. Richardson of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Three close cousins, Philip Moses and Ronnie Beckham, and Judge Todd Burke. One special friend, Debra (Penny) Matthews from Charlotte, NC.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
