Betty Sue Nixon Rhinehardt, 72, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on September 1, 2020. She was born February 7, 1948 to the late Fred Moody Nixon, Sr. and Bessie Hill Nixon of Denver, NC. She was married to James Rhinehardt and from this union were four children.
While growing up, Betty accepted Christ at an early age and attended Tucker's Grove United Methodist Church in the community in which she grew up until she relocated to Charlotte and joined First Baptist Church-West where she remained until her health failed.
Legendary for her homemade cakes and other baked goods, Betty enjoyed lavishing people with food. Family and friends struggle to execute her recipes with the same deft hand.
Betty instilled a strong work ethic in her children and encouraged their growth and development. They have fond memories of home reading time, frequent public library visits, and her exhortations to be upright and kind to others.
Betty was a long-time member of First Baptist Church-West where she reared her children and sang alto in the Women's Choir. Her sweet harmony was amplified in hymns; she could sing practically any hymn and all the stanzas by heart which she learned at an early age growing up in the Tucker's Grove United Methodist Church in Iron Station, NC.
Betty was beloved by her family but also by her community. A graduate of Newbold High School, Betty worked long stints at Radiator Specialty Company, Cuddy Farms, and lastly, Charlotte Medical Clinic where she doted on the medical staff for 15 years. Betty drew people to her, taking younger colleagues under her wings and making new ones feel at home. Betty was considered a "mother figure" to everyone fortunate to have known her.
Forever cherishing Betty's memories are her children: one son, Franklin Rhinehardt (Erica) of Charlotte, NC, and three daughters, Nethea Rhinehardt of Boynton Beach, FL, Tory Rhinehardt Ewing (Paul) of Concord, NC, and Ashley Rhinehardt Sarratt (Bryant) of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons, Christian and Cameron Rhinehardt, and one granddaughter, Olivia Sarratt.
She is also survived by her three loving sisters: Gracie Nixon Barnes (Rayford), Radiant Nixon Shipp, Dr. Linda Nixon Hudson (Randolph) and one brother Calvin Nixon (Vada); two sisters-in-law, Florence Nixon and Linda Nixon and a host of nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her two brothers, Fred Nixon and James Nixon, and one brother-in-law, Charles Shipp.
Betty will be remembered for her love of family, her pride in her children and grandchildren, and compassion for those around her. The family would like to thank Pelican Health Facility at 4801 Randolph Road for their care of Betty in her final years where she served as Vice President of the Resident's Council.
