Obituary

Reverend Beulah Peggy Ann Brown, 86 of Charlotte, departed this earthly life on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at her residence.  She was the daughter of the late Adolphus J. Reid and the late Sarah Thompson Reid.

Reverend Brown was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and graduated from Plato Price High School.  She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. David Brown in 1952.  To this union was born four children and they also adopted two of their grandchildren.  She began working for the United States Postal Service in 1968 and retired after 25 years.

She was an exceptional mother and role model to her family and friends.  She absolutely loved reading her Bible, inspirational and devotional books; and listening to and singing gospel music.  An an anointed preacher, you would often hear her talking about the goodness of the Lord.  She also was a great cook and loved to eat delicious food.  Some of her hobbies included collecting rare coins, watching Judge Judy and old westerns.

Reverend Brown was saved at an early age at Jerusalem House of God under the tutelage of her father-in-law, the late Bishop Matthew Brown.  She later moved to New York and attended St. Luke FBH Church in Brooklyn, NY.  She returned to Charlotte, NC and became a member of Moore's Sanctuary AME Zion Church.  After much prayer, she returned to the Fire Baptized movement, became a member of New Bethlehem FBH Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher.  Afterwards, she joined Greater Mt. Zion FBH Church under the tutelage of Elder Dr. Lester Powell, Jr., where she served faithfully on the Mother's Board and preached the Word of God without fear or favor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Brown; daughter, Karen Brown; siblings, Julia Wilson, Adolphus "Bud" Reid and Ella Evans; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bishop Matthew Brown and Mrs. Lillie Mae Brown.

She leaves to cherish fond memories her children, Gladys Walker (Bradley) and Beverly Yeomans, both of Fayetteville, NC, Tanya Patrick (Michael) and Estell Tolliver, both of Charlotte, NC, and Matthew Tolliver of Schenectady, NY; two sisters, Ruby Flax of Charlotte, NC and Naomi Swann of Sanford, NC; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a host of other family members and friends.
