Mr. Billy F. Stewart, 77, of Charlotte NC departed this life on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at his residence.

Billy Floyd Stewart, born October 29, 1946, in Morrilton, AR, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at his residence, with his family in Matthews, NC. Born to Ruth Baker, he was the oldest grandchild of Johnny and Berdia Baker, by whom he was raised.

The resilient Billy Floyd Stewart graduated from Lenapah Senior High School in Lenapah, Oklahoma in 1963 before pursuing higher education at Queens College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967. His commitment to education was just one facet of his dedicated life.

Dedicated to his country as well, he served honorably in the US Army from August 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War where he received various medals of honors for his valor and a Purple Heart.

His career with New York State was a testament to his dedication and hard work starting at 21 years old in the mail room and eventually becoming the District Manager for New York State Worker's Compensation.  He retired in September of 2000 leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and respect from those   he worked with.

Billy married Effie Middleton (Stewart) on March 9, 1973, in Queens, New York.  Their   long-lasting marriage was a testament to their commitment and love for each other.

Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Baker and his brother, James Bannerman.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Effie Stewart; his children, Stephen Middleton (Nicola), Michelle Buchanan, and Terrance Stewart; grandchildren, Monica Buchanan (Marquis Pedroso), Destiny Murphy, Brianna Stewart-Thompson, Nasir Middleton-Murphy, Maliq Buchanan, Z'lajazia Anderson, Miasia Stewart, D'ziah Williams, Jodia Stewart, Yaquim Stewart, and Eva Stewart; his great-grandchildren, Nehemiah Pedroso, Jesiah Pedroso, Iyaida Murphy-Maddox, Zai'rell Murphy-Maddox and Ariah Pedroso; sisters, Claudette Bannerman and Denise Bannerman; nephew, Jason Bannerman; and surviving aunts and uncles of 12, Christine Baker, Geraldine Wilson, Callie Mutry, Lloyd Ellis Baker, Betty Jewel Baker and Alma Jean Downing.
