Obituary

The Reverend Dr. Clarence B. Timpson was the sixth child of eleven children born to Will and Daisy Clark Timpson in Morgan, Georgia. Clarence grew up in Youngstown, Ohio and attended East High School. Immediately after high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he served his country for almost 12 years until he received the call to preach in 1964.

After receiving the call to preach, Clarence attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where he majored in Business Administration. He also attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and Texas A&M in Pecos, Texas. He received his Master of Theology from the Columbia School of Theology in Columbus, Ohio and a Doctor of Divinity from Union Bible College and Seminary in Houston, Texas.

Clarence started his ministry with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and was ordained in 1965. Throughout his time in ministry, he pastored churches in Alaska, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Ohio. While in Anchorage, Alaska, he organized a walk-in center for the homeless where over 100 hot meals were served daily. He also served as Presiding Elder for the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church for 13 years in Alaska and for 3 years in North and South Carolina.

In 1985, Clarence co-founded the Christian Charismatic Methodist Church with Reverend Doctor Larman V. Stennis where he was consecrated a bishop. He was the pastor of New Beginning Christian Charismatic Methodist Church in Youngstown, Ohio for 12 years. He was also the founder of the outreach ministries His Place and Her Place in Youngstown, Ohio for individuals who became homeless due to drug and alcohol addiction. The ministry provided Christian counseling, food, shelter, and employment assistance for its care recipients.

He and his wife later reorganized the Christian Charismatic Methodist Church under the new name of "Christian Charismatic Church" in North Carolina in 2009. Under the new Christian Charismatic Church, Clarence was the overseer of Word of Life Outreach Ministries where his wife, Elder Doctor Varda Timpson, is the pastor.

Reverend Doctor Clarence Timpson was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brothers Willie, Robert, Eugene, Clifford, and Waddell; and his sisters Dorothy, Beulah, and Lucrene; and his son Joel.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 37 years, Varda Kirkland Timpson; his children Teresa, Tawana, Donnell, Larry, Kenneth, Michael, and Stephen; his sisters Ossie and Fannie; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
