Obituary

Bobbie Jean Parks was born September 19, 1943, in Charlotte, NC to the late Cobb Withers and Ida Ruth Leak Withers.

Bobbie Jean attended school in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and graduate from York Road High School as Salutatorian of her class. She was a member of the Marching Band, Chorus, and Honor Society. Upon graduation, she attended Johnson C. Smith University then finished her students at Central Piedmont Community College completing her Business Degree. She worked as a secretary for the VP at Central Piedmont Community College for fourteen years; other work opportunities, Metropolitan Insurance as Sales Agent, BASF Corp as an Administrator when she retired.

Bobbie Jean was raised in Gethsemane Baptist Church, singing on the choir and attending Sunday School and all church activities. As an adult, she started playing for Walls Memorial AME Zion Church where she later joined.

Bobbie attended weekly Bible study under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Kenneth Q. James; she tirelessly assisted the scholarship Ministry, was a great Sunday School teacher, and directed the women's choir. At one time, she was the Quarterly Conference Clerk and the Charlotte District Reporter. She was elected delegate or alternate delegate to the Western North Carolina Annual Conference on several occasions. Her musical talents were used as Minister of Music, and she directed the J. T. White Singers and the Greater Charlotte Community Chorale. To her credit, she has an article in the Church School Journal-Herald on music and how it enables both expression and response to Almighty God and the church. Bobbie regularly attended the Gospel Music Workshop of American and conducted interviews for prospective Walls Memorial musicians. Likewise, she offered a good day's work as a life member of not only the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society (WH & OMS), but also the Connectional Lay Council. At the time of her death, she was the Lay Council President, Assistant/Corresponding Secretary for the West Charlotte Class of 1961, and president of the Young-at-Heart Ministry.

She leaves to cherish her sons, Bryan L. Parks and Michael Parks, grandchildren Brittany Mundy (Chris), Chloe A. Vines, Joshua McCall, Taylor Parks and Caleb Parks, Sister-Cousins Edna R. Williams and Esther D. Elder, and a host of family and friends.
