Bobby James Talbert, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Bobby James Talbert was born on March 20, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio to David C. Talbert and Helen Talbert. Bobby passed away on June 29, 2026, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, after a brief illness.
Bobby was raised in the Cherry neighborhood of Charlotte. He received his formal education in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. After completing Second Ward High School where he was the star basketball player ever for the school, he matriculated at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC where he earned a bachelor’s degree. In 2010, Bobby was inducted into the Livingstone College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bobby furthered on to become an educator in the public school system, following which he became employed by the United States Postal Service, where he remained for 38 years until retirement.
In 1965, he married the love of his life, Peggy Frazier, and to this union two sons were born, Eric Talbert and Torie Talbert. Bobby enjoyed coaching his sons in football and baseball. He also enjoyed watching western movies as well as his favorite game show, Jeopardy. Most of all, he enjoyed lunch dates at the Landmark Restaurant in Charlotte with the love of his life, Peggy.
Bobby accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was a deacon at Ben Salem Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully. Bobby was the Patriarch of the family and he will surely be missed. He touched everyone whom he encountered. He always had a word of wisdom or a great story to tell. He truly left his mark on this world. Daddy/Papa, we love you, but God loves you best.
Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his wife of 61 years, Peggy Talbert; two sons, Eric Talbert and Torie Talbert (Kim) of Charlotte, NC; one granddaughter, Monet Logan of Mt. Holly, NC; two great-grandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
