At an early age, Bonnie showed promise as an energetic participant in life and as a hard worker. In 1978, she graduated high school from East Mecklenburg High School where she performed with the Eagelettes during athletic events. Having an eye for fashion, she enrolled in a Fashion Merchandise class in high school and was selected to model clothing for Belk and Ivey's on runway, "Serenade to Autumn." She adored lovely clothes, shoes, make-up, jewelry, handbags, and putting an outfit together.
Mrs. Rivers was a member of Weeping Willow AME Zion Church throughout her childhood and into adulthood actively serving in Buds of Promise and assisting in other church duties.
In addition to her early work years, she was employed at Belk Department Store, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and as a Receiving Clerk at Family Dollar Distribution Center, serving in that capacity for thirteen years. Later she gained employment as an Operations Clerk 1 at Wells Fargo Customer Information Center. Her hobbies included shopping, cooking, entertaining, going out to eat, and spending time with family.
Surviving Bonnie is her husband of 36 years, Don Rivers; daughter, Dedra Greene; cousin, Jennifer Greene; aunt, Ollie Greene; niece, DeMarius Sullivan; brother-in-law, Lloyd Sullivan; all of Charlotte, NC; cousin, Anthony (Tony) Greene and wife, Cindy of Bowie, Maryland; Shakia Necole Hicks, Charlotte, NC. Also surviving Bonnie are a host of Greene, Clawson, Jones, Wallace and McGill cousins who will sorely miss her cheerful smile and enthusiastic banter.
