Brenda Harris, 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Atrium Main in Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Brenda Johnson Harris , daughter of the late Everette Johnson and Mary Ross, was born March 10, 1941, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She departed this life for her heavenly home on October 29, 2025.
Brenda married Mr. Robert E. Harris in the 1960's, and to this union 2 children were born. Brenda and Robert later divorced, choosing to live independently of one another.
Brenda was a loving and devoted mother who raised 3 boys on her own. She was a no non-sense mom whom her sons describe as an "old school" parent that taught them by example. A quiet and reserved "home body," Brenda's daughter-in-law describes her as kind, down to earth, and non-judgmental, never putting her down or speaking a harsh word.
Brenda attended Johnson C. Smith University in the early 1960's to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). After graduation, she was employed at Good Samaritan Hospital, but with the desegregation of healthcare, she was hired at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, later named Charlotte Memorial Center (CMC), when it closed. She spent 40+ years working for this hospital system in pediatrics and mental health, retiring in the early 2000's.
Brenda joined the East Stonewall AME Zion Church in 2013 where she attended regularly until her health failed. She was a member of the Senior Ministry, The Silver Sneakers, and was the unofficial head of Health & Wellness. She represented the Ministry at the MedAssist program every month where she secured free over-the-counter medicine to distribute. She was also a member of the Missionary Parent Body.
Quiet and reserved, Brenda spent much of her time doing crossword puzzles and watching her favorite shows, especially sports. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harris, brother, William "La-La" Ross, and sister Johnnie Mae Audrey.
Brenda leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons; Byron Chisholm (Jwanna), Roderick Harris, and Sean Harris of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Shenetha Chisholm Barkley (Christopher), Tampa, Florida and Christopher Raines, Raleigh, NC, a Sister-in-law, Linda Ross, Charlotte, NC; Sisters, Joanne Stover and Gail Brown, both of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
