Mrs. Brenda Scott-Jefferson, 75 of Charlotte, NC departed this life on May 1, 2023 at her residence.

Mom, Sis, Aunt Scottie, Lil' Brenda , Ms. Brenda, Mrs. Jefferson, my friend… No matter how you greeted her, she always greeted you with a hug and a bright smile!

Brenda graduated from West Charlotte Senior High School (C/O '67) and, like many of us, received a master's degree from the school of Hard Knocks. Years ago, she penned a "Mother's Day Salute " where she described motherhood in seven words. These same words describe her life.

Brenda had the WISDOM to make wise decisions regarding the education and spiritual well-being of her family. She also extended COMPASSION throughout her life span whereas these acts of compassion continue to be an example for generations to come.

Brenda endured EXPERIENCES which enabled her to guide her family and others around the pitfalls of life while leaning on the Lord herself.

She was also a LOYAL person and was not afraid to express her devotion to God and to her family at any given moment.

A CREATIVE soul, Brenda was adventurous and determined in helping her family and others find resources and good deals. Brenda had the STRENGTH of ten thousand men. She would smile when she wanted to cry. She would feel the pain of others. She would not avoid things which were uncomfortable.

Lastly , Brenda was DISCIPLINED. She taught people to have respect and love for themselves and others.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Robert Avery, Sr .; mother, Doleatha Grier Goodman; and sister, Joyce White. Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Laverture Scott (Pam) and Kelli Scott (Cecil ); brothers, Daryl Avery and Johnnie Avery, Jr. (Chucky ); two aunts, Pearlee A. Coefield and Roberta G. Sampson; uncle, Lorain Avery, Jr .; granddaughter, Jamya Scott; bonus grandchildren, Kiana Harris and Roniyah; grand-dogs, Mable and Zoe; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
