Obituary

Overseer Pastor Brenda E. Stevenson, 66 of Charlotte, NC earned her wings on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital.

She was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Mr. James Patrick Martin, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Helen Martin Colbert.

Overseer married the love of her life, Chief Apostle Norman L. Stevenson. God blessed them with twelve beautiful children.

In 1981, Chief Apostle Norman L. Stevenson and Overseer Pastor Brenda Stevenson birthed a new and innovative ministry, New Outreach Christian Center. Through the years, the ministry has afforded many to discover and flourish in their gifts to the Kingdom of God. As an awesome prayer warrior and encourager, she lived by the words: "Don't Worry, Everything's Gonna Be Alright." These very words were often heard in her favorite song, "I've Got A Feeling Everything's Gonna Be Alright", and could quickly transform an individual's negative situation into a positive life changing experience.

As an outstanding community activist, and philanthropist, Overseer's compassionate heart and her agility impacted the Greater Charlotte Region and more specifically the Hoskins Community. She didn't do anything by happenstance! Every intricate detail for outreach was fulfilled with much love, care and concern. It was extremely important that people in need, no matter how great or small received high quality care and service. Her passion was to serve and she instituted it well!

In addition to her parents, Overseer was preceded in death by her son, Raman Stevenson; siblings, James Patrick Martin, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; James Patrick Martin, Jr. of Eden, NC; Mary Helen Withers, Walter Colbert, Michael Colbert and John Colbert.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving husband, Chief Apostle Norman L. Stevenson, her children, Pastor Sharkeeta Stevenson, Apostle Gerald Stevenson and fiancé Raven Robinson, Devante Stevenson, Detra Davis-Rainey, Charlotte Stevenson Tatum (Darryl), Sheila Stevenson-Dorrough (Chris), DaKarai Ramseur (Keta), Delilah Ramseur, Clarence Brown, III (Danielle), and Noah Brown, all of Charlotte, NC and Pamela Ramseur of Baltimore, MD; four sisters, Sarah Broadie (Lee) and Miriam Davis (Allen), both of Charlotte, NC; Julia Hairston of Eden, NC, and Kathy Martin Jones of Washington, DC; five brothers, Charles Colbert (Barbette), Ralph Colbert, Moses Colbert (Lesia) and David Colbert (Jackie), all of Charlotte, NC, George Colbert (Sabrina), of Decatur, GA; thirty-four grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of spiritual children, other family members and friends.

There will be a public memorial service in the parking lot of New Outreach Christian Center at 3900 Gossett Ave. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 5:00 pm. The family requests that you please bring White Balloons to honor Overseer Stevenson. The Home Going Celebration will be Private for Family and Invited Friends.
