Mr. Burl L. Simmons of Charlotte, NC, departed this life for an exceedingly better place on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 3:30 a.m. Burl was born on June 4, 1955 in Washington, DC to Lula G. Varner and William E. Simmons.  The eighth of nine children, he grew up and was educated in Washington, DC where he attended Evangel Temple Church with his family.

In his first job, he served as a youth counselor with the Washington Metropolitan Area 4-H Club.  Later he interned at the Pepco Electric Company as a mechanical technician.  As the Lord would have it, Burl moved to Moncks Corner, SC in 1980 for what he thought was a change of pace and stayed with his Mom and Dad until he could secure his own place.  However, little did he know that he was stepping right into the will of God for his life.  For shortly after his arrival to Moncks Corner, his dad began experiencing health challenges that persisted and worsened over time until he went to be with the Lord in 1996.  The family owes Burl an enormous debt of gratitude.

Years later when his Mom needed assistance, he was there for her as well, doing everything that she needed until she transitioned to Paradise in 2014.  How about that for a life well-lived?

In addition to his parents, Burl was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael Simmons, Sheldon Simmons and William Simmons, Jr.

Burl is survived by two lovely daughters, Crystal Farmer of Washington, DC and Danielle Farmer of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Irvin Simmons (Verda) of Temple Hills, MD; Lloyd Simmons (Jonnie) of Oxon Hill, MD; three sisters, Marva Baxley of Washington, DC, Patricia Johnson of Concord, NC; Wiletta Jones, also of Concord, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
