Mr. Butler Blakeney Jr. CHARLOTTE - Butler Blakeney Jr., 80, of Boston, Mass., passed away on Monday, April 7 at his residence. Home going service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at Chappell Memorial Baptist Church located at 110 Bradford Drive, Charlotte with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. He was the proud son of the late Butler Blakeney Sr. and Hazeline Morrison Blakeney of Pageland, S.C., and Paw Creek, respectively. Preceding him in death were his sister, Lucille Blakeney Sizer and brother, Eugene Blakeney. Butler was raised in First Ward and graduated from Second Ward High School with honors. He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and graduated from Tennessee State University with a degree in engineering. Butler moved to Boston in 1955 where he enjoyed a successful career in engineering and retired from Massachusetts Transit Authority in 2004. He and his late wife, Ivy, also realized their passion for interior decorating and opened Blakeney's Interiors over 30 years ago. He embraced the access of educational institutions in the Boston metropolitan area and found time to continue studies at MIT and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Butler had strong ties to the Liberian community in Boston, helping many of them integrate educationally and socially into the community. He is survived by his loving sister Shirley Blakeney, of Charlotte, several aunts, a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.
