Obituary

Caesar "Bear" Wallace departed his life on Wednesday Dec 30th 2020. He was born to Edward and Thelma Wallace on June 20, 1937 in Charlotte NC.

He was educated in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and his pride was his alma mater, West Charlotte Senior High School. "Bear" this name was fondly given to Caesar as his nickname when he played football for West Charlotte High School. During his senior year he played on the winning team for the Queen City classic against Second Ward High School in 1954. These schools were archrivals, but in later years these men formed a bond from both schools and created an organization called the "Breakfast Club", where he was a proud member for over 30 years. He attended St Augustine University in Raleigh NC.

Caesar was known as the "Coca Cola Man" in the Charlotte Metropolitan area. He worked for The Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated for 32 years until he retired in 1987. He was the first African American man to work as Coca Cola truck driver. Due to Caesar's strong work ethic, the President of Coca Cola in the Charlotte District, Mr. George Snyder personally mentored Caesar into an astute businessman. After many years of being a truck driver, Caesar was promoted to Salesman/Community Liaison for African American owned businesses in the Charlotte community. Through his extensive work and partnerships, Caesar became the first Minority Affairs Marketing Director for Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated USA in Charlotte NC.

After retirement, Caesar was the busiest retired man on earth. He also worked for Grier's Funeral Services for many years until his own health started to decline.

Caesar was a member of Ebenezer Baptist since childhood. He was best known in his later years as the unofficial greeter of the church. You could always find him sitting at the rear entrance to greet every member and visitor who walked through the doors. He served in many capacities at the church.

Caesar was associated with various organizations in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Rameses Temple #51, Unique Lodge #35. He served as the Past Potentate for several years.
