Calvine Webber Brooks was born July 11, 1948 in Kings Mountain, Cleveland County, North Carolina to the very proud parents, Aileen Bridges Webber and Price A. Webber, Sr. The family relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1950. She attended schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg graduating from West Charlotte Senior High School in 1966. She continued her education at Johnson C. Smith University where she was active in the Thesbians. This is where she developed her love of reading. Calvine read books, articles, journals, and newspapers of different genres. Calvine grew up in Mount Carmel Baptist Church serving on the Junior Usher Board and a member of the Baptist Training Union (BTU). She joined First Baptist Church West after her marriage to Robert Brooks. As a loving couple, they worked and built a wonderful life together supporting and caring for their parents and encouraging younger family members to reach their goals. She was a deaconess and served on the Deaconess Board where she loved serving in many different capacities. Calvine worked for CMC and Mecklenburg County at the Health Department, mammogram division. She qualified and scheduled many women to receive mammograms and follow-up treatments as needed. This was more of a passion for her than a job, to help women receive healthcare. She is survived by her husband of over thirty years, Robert Brooks; mother, Aileen Bridges Webber; sister, Laura W. Holmes (Willie J.); two brothers, Price A. Webber, Jr. (Anzella) and Wade B. Webber (Robin); three nieces, Carol L. Holmes, Lynn L. Holmes and Erin W. Hamrick (Brad); two nephews, Darien Webber (Alexis) and Bryton Webber; and one great nephew, Austin Webber and one great-niece, Allasyn Webber. Calvine is also survived by beautiful and loving sisters-in-law, wonderful brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many other family members and friends. Mrs. Brooks passed on May 3, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Friday, May 8, 2015 at First Baptist Church-West. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
