Mrs. Carol Bridges, 87 of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday June 8, 2019 Novant Health-Presbyterian. She was born June 25, 1932, to the late Malcolm and Flirrie Worthy in Chester, South Carolina.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age as a member of Zion Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Chester, South Carolina.
After moving to Charlotte, NC, she met and married the late James W. Bridges (who served as faithful deacon of MMMBC). Together, they raised two wonderful children, Patricia and Johnny.
Carol completed her formal education and received her high school diploma from the Teamer Adult Education School of Charlotte, North Carolina.
As one who loved the Lord, Carol served faithfully as the Administrative Secretary for her beloved church for over thirty-two years. If the doors were open, chances are you would see Carol Bridges in service to her beloved church community, where she was an active charter member.
Carol was an active member of Missionary Group #5. The Ever Ready Hostess Committee; the X-Tra Years of Zest Senior Group, and loved singing in the Adult Musical Choir, where she remained faithfully for over 35 years, until her health began to decline. She served as an Armor Bearer and service on the Board of the Mayfield Memorial Apartments.
Her love for education allowed her to complete her Bachelor of Ministry Degree from the MMMBC Sugar Creek School of Religion under the direction of her late pastor, the Reverend Dr. Harold S. Diggs.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Bridges; sister, Agnes Ruth Greer and brothers, Rev. Vernon and Hugh Worthy.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory daughter, Patricia B. (Rev. Frederick) Wilson of Charlotte, NC; son, Johnny (Correan) Worthy of Rialto, CA; five grandchildren, Jacqueline (Harold Ray) Coffee, Deidre and Felicia Wilson, John B. and Lena Worthy; two great-grandchildren, Valevet L. and Amire E. Worthy of Rialto, CA; brother, Ben Worthy (Betty) of Charlotte, NC; sister, Vessie Roberts of Atlanta, GA; sisters-in-law, Carrie Worthy and Nainel Worthy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and spiritually adopted daughter, Denise Summers.
