Obituary

On March 30, 2018, our beloved Carolinda began a new journey and departed this life.  Carolinda was warm hearted, intelligent and exuded creativity.  She had a purposeful strength that was apparent in how she interacted with friends and family. She was a member of Rockwell A.M.E. Zion Church where she maintained and nurtured relationships with friends she grew up with as member of the church and community. She loved her husband David dearly and was a devoted wife for 56 plus years. She loved her daughters Traci and Karen with a fierceness of the lioness that she was.  She loved and adored Alex. She loved and had a best friend for life in Devin and she loved and delighted in Benjamin.

Carolinda was a graduate of Torrence Lytle High School.  She retired from Charlotte Mecklenburg School System after 19 years of service. When opportunity presented itself to exhibit her talent, she illustrated two children's books. She was a talented writer. She helped organize and manage Young's Wheelchair Service with her husband from 2006 to 2012.

She is survived by her husband David Young Jr., her daughters Traci Y. Bailey (Benjamin III) and Karen Y. Kelly (Darryl), her grandchildren Darryl Alexander Kelly, Devin Brianna Bailey and Benjamin Franklin Bailey IV, her sisters, Henrietta McClain, Juanita Preston, Wilma Boyd, Constance Talford, Delores Reid, Lucille Holtzclaw, and Patricia Williams, along with her beloved brothers and sisters in law and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carolinda's strong belief in God and family gave her strength and purpose throughout the years. She leaves a legacy of strength, love and a commitment to family that will be remembered by all who loved her and she loved.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Rockwell AME Zion Church.  Visitation will begin at 12 noon until 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

"Your life was a blessing, Your memory a treasure….

You are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure."
