Carolyn Ann McIlwain, 76, of Charlotte passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024.

Carolyn Ann McIlwain was born August 5, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She was the first child born to loving parents, James and Eunice McIlwain, who preceded her in death.  She peacefully departed her earthly life on October 4, 2024, at Pineville Rehabilitation Center.

Carolyn was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System.  She graduated from York Road High and attended Elizabeth City State University.  She later graduated from Central Piedmont Community College where she trained as a Medical Assistant.

Carolyn was very proud of the work that she did at Planned Parenthood where she loved working and caring for the people she encountered. She was also active with the York Road Alumni Association.

She was baptized here at McClintock Presbyterian Church as an infant and later joined its membership.  Carolyn remained a lifelong member and remained active until her health declined.  She was involved in worship and church ministries, Gospel Choir, Usher Board and Presbyterian Women.  She was ordained as a Deacon and served faithfully for many years.

Carolyn was preceded in death by one brother, James McIlwain.  Carolyn dearly loved her family.  She was particularly close to her grandparents, Mama and Papa Grier. She could be counted on for recollections of her time with them, as well as the legacy of this church.

Carolyn is survived by a host of cousins and friends who will dearly miss her kindness, gentleness and giving spirit.   Special acknowledgements to cousins, Gabrielle Lanier and Rodney Lanier who were her primary caregivers.
