Obituary

Carolyn Evette Scott-Graham (affectionately known as Evette and Scotty), 61 of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021 at her residence.  She was born April 10, 1960, to the late Azzlee DeWalt and Milton A. Wells Sr. in Alexandria, Virginia.

Evette accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and savior at an early age and joined Mt. Jezreel Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA.  Evette went on to graduate from T.C. Williams High School in 1979.  After High School, Evette went on to obtain her Cosmetology License.  While being a hairstylist, she also began working at the Navy Annex and then the Pentagon Federal Credit Union as a Supervisor of the Receipts Processing Division.  While working there, she met her first husband Randy Lamar Scott.  They married on May 21st, 1985. Their marriage welcomed two beautiful children, Kavel Desaron Scott and Maresa Sharmel Scott. After their union, they had the opportunity to travel to Germany and Holland, as Randy was a Member of the United States Army. Upon returning to the US, they were able to purchase their home to start building their lives in Temple Hills, MD.  Evette and Randy enjoyed hosting family functions, as well as entertaining their close friends.  After Randy and Evette parted ways, they remained friends.

Evette met the love of her life, Robert Lee Graham, while working as as attendant for Amoco. Robert would frequent her location to pay the monthly bill for his truck drivers at Waste Management.  While Evette repeatedly turned him down, he persisted.  After numerous attempts, she finally agreed to go out on a date with him.  The rest is history, and the two finally wed on February 10th, 1999, and they settled down in their new home in Clinton, MD.  While residing in Clinton, they hosted family gatherings and functions, as Gee loved to cook for everyone, and Evette loved to entertain.  Outside of working and building their life, they adored caring for their grandchildren (Maile, MiMi, Chance and Fat Man).  Their marriage welcomed a beautiful daughter, Shayla Leilani Graham.  Evette remained totally devoted to Robert and his care until his passing on August 19th, 2005.

Evette spent her many years working in the banking industry as a Teller, Supervisor of Receipts Processing, and Cash Room Manager for the Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Loomis, and Dunbar, and worked various positions for Comcast/Xfinity.  Although Evette spent many years in the banking and telecommunications industry, she had a natural talent for cosmetology, interior design/decorating, technology and caring for children.

While residing in Clinton, Maryland with Robert, she opened an interior decorating business, daycare, and continued to host hairdressing clients in her basement that she transformed into a mini-hair salon. During her time in Clinton, MD she became a Member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church.  As Robert's illness progressed, they decided to relocate to Charlotte, NC in 2004.

Once Evette relocated to Charlotte, NC, she became a devoted Member to New Bethel COGIC.  She served on the Transportation Ministry, Church Choir, and faithfully on the Sound Ministry.  Along with being a faithful servant, she ensured her daughter served as well.  Shayla was a student at Sunday school, took part in the usher board and joined the Summer Youth Program.  She was a good and faithful servant until her untimely death.

After Robert's passing, Evette continued attending church, raising their daughter Shayla, working, being a loving and dedicated grandmother, helping to raise her grandchildren (Kevaren Desaron-Dell Scott and Shavelle Jesse Scott) and spending time with her sisters and good girlfriends.  Evette was known as the life of the party.  She always enjoyed a good laugh, her laugh was infectious and could fill a room, she always had a listening ear, she was very direct, honest, compassionate and told it like it is.  If you did not want to know the truth, don't ask her.  She adored the friendships she developed over the years and enjoyed spending quality time with them.  Evette was always there when you needed her.  She lived a very happy and fulfilling life, wearing many hats, and she will truly be missed.

Evette was predeceased by her Beloved Husband Robert Graham; her Father, Milton A. Wells Sr.; her Mother, Azzlee DeWalt; her sister, Teresa Davis; her brother, Kevin Wells.

Left to cherish her memory is her ex-husband, Randy L. Scott; one son, Kavel Scott; two daughters, Maresa Scott and Shayla Graham; grandchildren, Kevaren Dell-Scott and Shavelle Scott; one daughter-in-law, Eva Scott; one brother, Milton A. Wells Jr. (Buddy); two sisters, Kim McIvor and Jacqueline Hayes; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, special friends of the family (Dana Dantzler, Valerie White, Sandra Waddell, Charlette Poindexter, Traci Crawford and Michelle Moore); and many other relatives and close friends.
