Carolyn Delores Wintons, 82, of Charlotte, passed away on September 27, 2023, at Novant Hospital - Huntersville.

Carolyn was born September 7, 1941 in Lake City, Florida to Carl Taylor and Mary Jones. She graduated from Richardson High School in Lake City. Thereafter, she married James Wintons, Sr. of Lake City and welcomed baby girls Lawanda Denise in 1960, and Michelle Renae in 1963.

Carolyn was a hard worker and held down two, and sometimes three, jobs at once. She worked as a nurse at College Point Nursing Home in College Point, New York; a school nurse at Far Rockaway High School in Far Rockaway, NY; and a nurse at the Queens Nassau Nursing Home in Far Rockaway. During this time, Carolyn birthed a son, James Jr., in Elmhurst, NY in 1966. Carolyn took some time to raise her children and then in 1969, Casey Andre', was born in Jamaica, NY.

Carolyn moved the family to Long Island, NY where she returned to work at the school and the nursing home. She retired from both jobs in 1996.

As a nurturer with a loving heart, Carolyn became a foster parent. From 1997 to 2005, Carolyn fostered 10 children and adopted five: Rashawn Wintons; James "Jackie" Wintons; Jonel Wintons; NaQuashia Wintons; and Octavia Wintons.

At the urging of her son James, Jr., Carolyn moved to Charlotte in 2004. Not long after, Lawanda, Michelle, and Casey also moved to Charlotte. Carolyn's home quickly became the nucleus of where the family gathered for her famous Sunday dinners and birthday celebrations.

Carolyn loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure. She provided unconditional love and was not satisfied until everyone was fed and had what they needed. She leaves a legacy of numerous lives touched by her love.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Sr.; daughter, Michelle Wintons; son, Casey Wintons, Sr.; son-in-law, Russell Diamond; grandson, Derek Diamond; siblings, Carl Taylor Jr., Arthur James "Shangabob" Taylor, and Mary Ann Ausgood.

Mourning her passing are her children, Lawanda (the late Russell) Diamond; James (Jamela) Wintons, Jr.; Jonel Wintons; NaQuashia (Gabe) Tucker; and Octavia Wintons, all of Charlotte; Rashawn Wintons of Pennsylvania; and James "Jackie" Wintons of New York; grandchildren, Tanisha Diamond; Jaliek Saunders; Martin Diamond; James D. Wintons III; Jasmine K. Wintons; Jada (Trevor) Anderson; Christian Wintons; Casey T. Wintons Jr.; Jermaine Wintons; Jelani Wintons; and Dashon Squire, all of Charlotte; Afina Barnes of Virginia; Kashon Squire, Joseph Newkirk, both of New York; great-grandsons, Christian R. Wintons Jr. of Greensboro; Bryce N. Anderson of Charlotte; sisters, Linda (the late Willie James) Battles; Barbara Jean (Jesse) Merrick; and Susan Robinson, all of Lake City; brother, Willie Robinson of Lake City; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Wintons of Charlotte; a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins.
