Obituary

Mother Catherine Loretta Morgan Pettice was born in Edgefield, SC on November 18, 1925. Her family members were sharecroppers for years before migrating to Washington, DC and New York. Mother Pettice was saved by God in Harlem, New York in 1944. Later, she became a member of the Bible Way Temple in Washington, DC. She sang with the Radio Choir and became a member of the True Blue Club. Bishop Smallwood Williams would call her to sing a solo on Sunday mornings. She was introduced to a dashing young Army Corporal named George W. Pettice. He became saved, and on August 6, 1950, they were married. Through this fifty-six-year union, she and Bishop Pettice had six children (five sons and one daughter).

Mother Pettice was a faithful wife to Bishop George W. Pettice until his eternal rest in December of 2006. During their marriage, she traveled with her husband and family in the United States and abroad (Guam and Germany). She supported her husband, who was then an ordained Elder, in all of his endeavors in the ministry, even when he was an elder on several church staffs in the cities where he was stationed. She taught herself to cook, make clothes, and play the piano. She became a soloist, choir director, missionary, and Sunday School teacher in churches he pastored in Fayetteville, NC; Spindale, NC; and Charlotte, NC.

Mother Pettice later attended the Church of God Bible School and attended Central Piedmont Community College, both of Charlotte, NC. She served as the Second Vice President of the National Missionary Department of the Bible Way Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide. She, along with her husband, founded the Bible Way Apostolic Church in Charlotte in 1975. Four of Mother Pettice's children became ministers of the gospel and one became a deacon. The Harvest is where Mother served as the church mother, a field missionary, and a prayer warrior.

Mother Pettice was a sharp dresser and was known for her many hats, shoes and purses to match her outfits. She was fierce but loving, and she was known to ask you, "Why weren't you in church Sunday?" She would then listen to your issues and excuses, and then she would tell you that you STILL need to come to church. Then she would pray with you! She used to carry a bag of safety pins and handkerchiefs in her purse, in case you needed to cover or pin something you were wearing that was too low or too high!

Until the age of 93, she drove, had a key and the code to the church, and if you were going through, she would have you to meet her at the church to pray. Whether on a phone call or in person, with everything in her, she would pray you through. She could be very comical with that hilarious sense of humor that would build you up when you felt torn down. Her legacy leaves behind many spiritual sons and daughters, and several spiritual children used what Bishop G. W, and she taught them to plant their own ministries.

Mother Pettice transitioned from labor to reward on October 29, 2024. Her husband, Bishop George W. Pettice, her sons, Donald Pettice, Stephen W. Pettice, and Bishop Stanley E. Pettice, and four of her five siblings preceded her in death, She leaves behind two sons, Deacon Michael O. Pettice and Pastor Phillip A. Pettice, one daughter, Dr. Kathy P. Hall (Pastor Trent), one daughter-in-law, Rita, one of her five siblings, Elder Richard Morgan (Helen), two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Pierson and Marjorie Brewington, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, saints and friends.

Mother Pettice's favorite scripture was Matthew 5:20 which states, "For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." Her desire was to serve the Lord in such a way that she would be a role model for the body of Christ. Mother Pettice was greatly loved and revered, internationally. As one who always had a profound Word, she will be deeply missed by all; however, her departing desire was for us to love and serve God and meet her on the other side.
