Mr. Charles Edward Cathey, 64, son of the late Charlie R. and Eliza Shipp Cathey, was born January 9, 1956, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On Thursday, April 30, 2020, after his struggle to overcome the death of his mother, and his declining health, he departed this life at Novant Health Care in Huntersville, North Carolina.

As a youth, Charles attended Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church prior to moving into the assisted living home.  He then worshipped at The United House of Prayer for All People.

Charles attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and with his daily life challenges, he was enrolled in Nevins Center and Praising Hands LLC Day Program and other sheltered workshops in Mecklenburg County.

He was a resident of AFL Assisted Living.  There he formed his second family and they loved each other dearly.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Howard and Jarvis Henderson.

He leaves to cherish fond memories three sisters, Valerie Cathey-Nelson, Cheryl Cathey-McManus (Woodrow) and Annette Cathey-Harris (Robert), all of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is also survived by his very special AFL family:  Sheps "Pops" El, Philip Hill, Christian Haritston, Anony White, Edward Simmons and Billy Martian.
