Charles James DeWalt, 66, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Elder Charles James DeWalt, 66, entered into eternal rest on June 29, 2026. He was born on May 5, 1960, in Decatur, Illinois, to the late James Eddie DeWalt and Edna Mae DeWalt.  A devoted servant of God, Elder DeWalt faithfully answered the call to ministry and was ordained as an Elder. A proud United States Marine, Charles considered serving his country one of the greatest honors of his life. The values of honor, courage, and commitment defined not only his military service but also the way he lived, led, and loved his family. His dedication to serving others continued through his ministry and in his pursuit of higher education. He earned a Master of Divinity from Regent University, a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming from Winston-Salem State University, and an Associate’s degree in Business Computer Programming from Sandhills Community College. His commitment to excellence was recognized through the Leadership Award from Vision of Life International and the John Peacock Data Processing Management Association Award.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He shared 23 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ramona DeWalt. Together, they built a loving and blended family that remained the greatest joy of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Eddie and Edna Mae DeWalt; his sister, Elaine DeWalt; his eldest daughter, Vashette “Shalon” Davis; and his son, Joshua Wyatt.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 23 years, Ramona DeWalt; his children: Nelton Davis, Tiniki White, Keith Wyatt, Nykole Wyatt, Tasha Wyatt, Travis Neighbors, LaVette Neighbors, Ryan Robinson, Daniel DeWalt, Stephen DeWalt Sr., David DeWalt, Jovon Wyatt, and Regina Mayo.

Charles was the second oldest of six children and is survived by his siblings, Johnathan Eric DeWalt, Gary Allen DeWalt, James Anthony DeWalt Sr., and Mae Katherine DeWalt.

He also leaves behind two nephews, two nieces, twenty-two grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and a host of extended family members, cherished friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ whose lives were forever touched by his faith, wisdom, compassion, and steadfast love.

Elder Charles James DeWalt will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his faithful service as a United States Marine, his dedication to his family, his love of learning, and the countless lives he influenced through his ministry and example. His legacy of faith, leadership, integrity, and love will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
