Mr. Charles "Carlos" Dwiggins, 66 of Charlotte, accepted his heavenly call to rest on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Novant Health-Main. He was born to Joseph and Mary L. Spencer on December 2, 1953 in Charlotte. Charles was born to a loving family of 3 sisters and 4 brothers. He had so much love to share so his grandparents Stacey and Angeline Dwiggins adopted him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two sisters Vanessa and Valerie Spencer.
Charles was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. While attending school he played football and participated in the band at school and also at church. He had an opportunity to travel all over the world as a musician with his former church, The United House of Prayer for All People. He played several instruments but his special instruments were trumpet, saxophone and drums. Since Charles was so musically talented, he received further education at Johnson C. Smith University and Grambling University where he majored in music education. Following college, he began working at Firestone Tire Company. Because of his work ethics, he worked his way up to manager. He remained with Firestone for twenty years. Charles decided that he wanted to try commercial truck driving. He drove for various companies delivering through intermodal services.
Charles did not know a stranger. While vacationing in the Bahamas, he met a young lady named Sharon. They had multiple conversations about his soul. He was even asked if he had a right standing with Jesus. They continued to talk about salvation and his soul. He decided that he wanted a change in his life so he began attending a little church name St. Mark Missionary Baptist. While attending St. Mark, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as His Savior and was baptized by Pastor Dennis R. Williams, Sr. A few years later, Pastor Williams accepted an assignment at Faith Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Charles supported and loved Pastor Williams. To show his support, Charles joined Faith Memorial. He became a member of the Layman's League, sang with the Male Tones, the men's choir and supported the security staff when he was not working.
He was a fun, loving person who always wanted people around him to laugh about something. Often he would approach people at church and tell them the bus was outside waiting to take them back to their hometown.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Rev. Sharon Torrence-Dwiggins; daughters, Chanda M. Gettys (Ontario) of Charlotte, Wendy Howard, of Charlotte and ALiza of Greensboro. One sister, Bonnie Lunn (Charlotte); four brothers, Joseph Lunn (Mary), of Charlotte, Gary B. Spencer (Marie) of Kannapolis, NC, Butch Spencer of Landover, MD and Douglas Spencer of Chicago, IL. The Lunn Family, Grandchildren, Great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, church family and colleagues.
Donations in Charles Dwiggins Honor may be sent to the Novant Health Heart Association; Diabetes Association, Faith Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
