Charles, often known as "Chin", was the youngest of six children and was educated in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. He graduated from Independence High School with the Class of 1971. Charles was employed at Buffalo Tanks as a Welder.

He enjoyed all things sports, especially racing. He also enjoyed playing the drums, mechanic work, assembling model cars and riding motorcycles.

Treasuring his precious memories are his daughter: Dalliah MaShon Black of Houston, TX and sons: Brandon Watkins and Charles Freeman Stevenson both of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Londynn and Britt Watkins of Charlotte, NC; siblings: Mable McFarlen, Timothy Freeman, Jr. (Bertha), William Freeman and Marian Freeman all of Charlotte, NC; bonus sibling/niece: Andrea King of Charlotte, NC; aunt: Marian Connor of Davidson, NC; special friends: Curtis & Tina Hancock and Greg & Ernestine Collins all of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
