Charles Edward Funches, 70, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Charles Edward Funches was born on September 4, 1955 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He departed this earthly home on May 4, 2026.

Charles received his education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, graduating from Garinger High School. He joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department in Sept. 1979, with dedicated service he remained until his retirement. Charles was an avid biker. He loved his Harley-Davidson MC. Not only did he ride; he built and repaired Harleys. He was one of the founding members of the Rat Patrol Motorcycle Club. He represented his club with pride and dignity. He and his late wife Shirley shared a mutual love for biking and traveling the country. But more than anything he loved his children and grandchildren.

Charles now joins his wife of over 40 years Shirley Ann Funches. He is preceded in death by his mother and father John and Laura Funches; his sister Dorothy Frazier; and his brother Tommie Funches.

He leaves to cherish his memory and carry his legacy: 1 brother: John Funches (Elaine); 5 children: Charles S. (Demetria), Kimberly Funches, Monique Funches, Bernard G. (Melissa) and Kaylin Jackson. 7 grandchildren: Da’Kari, Naziah, Justin, Nigel, Channing, Weslyah and Anthony. 4 great grandchildren, 2 bro-in-laws: Freddie Williams (Julie) and Frank Williams. 2 sis-in-laws: Carolyn Johnson and Bonnie Fletcher. A host of nieces, nephews and friends. 2 best friends: Greg Chambers and Will Swain.
