Mr. Charles Linburg Johnston Jr., 73, of Charlotte, NC, departed this life on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at his residence.
Charles Linburg Johnston, Jr., affectionately known by many as "CJ," "Bo," "Polo," "Daddy," and "Papa," peacefully left this life on August 20, 2024, at his residence. Born on January 11, 1951, in Lincoln County, North Carolina, Charles was the son of George Linburg Johnson and Agnes Sanders Johnson. He was raised alongside his beloved sister Bertha, with whom he shared many fond childhood memories. Growing up in a small family, the two were inseparable, often finding creative ways to entertain themselves.
Charles was educated in the Gaston County School System and went on to build a career as a production worker, with his last job being at Coca-Cola. Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, Charles had a way of bringing laughter to any situation. His ability to make people smile was one of his most cherished traits, and those who knew him will always remember him as a man full of joy and light-heartedness.
On November 2, 1985, Charles married the love of his life, Beverly Mobley, and together they blended their families. Charles brought three children into the marriage, and Beverly had two of her own. In 1987, they were given the beautiful opportunity to raise another daughter, who blended seamlessly into their growing family. Charles took great pride in his role as a Father and Papa, always finding joy in the company of his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. Charles took pleasure in family gatherings, cooking out, fishing trips, and tending to his gardening. Known for his sense of humor, Charles also had a unique talent for singing songs he did not know the words to, much to the delight and laughter of those around him.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Dion Johnson, and his daughter, She'conda Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of nearly 39 years, Beverly Mobley Johnson; his children: Jennifer Forney Johnson (Clarence), Drellco Lamont Hunter, Benjamin Ham II, and Robert Antonio Miles; his grandchildren: Kennon Cofield, Diaun Zaki' Cofield, Jonas Davis, Javarrie Johnson, and Jay'Ceon Pendergrass; his sister, Bertha Moore, of Charlotte, NC; his sisters-in-law, Lashawn Martin (Bobby) of Concord, NC, and Michelle Waymyers of Charlotte, NC; and his beloved Aunt Mary Pless of Lowesville, NC. Charles will also be deeply missed by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, including his special nephew, Darren Moore and lifelong friend, Douglas Ross, who will both mourn his loss.
Charles' legacy of love, humor, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for the laughter he brought into the world but also for the deep love he had for his family and the simple joys he embraced in life.
