Charles Leroy Yeldell, Sr. was born to Nathan and Hattie Lee Yeldell in Stamford, Texas. He was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, soldier, mentor, and superhero to those he inspired. He was called home Monday, November 27, 2023.
In his youth, Charles was a leader and a gifted athlete, excelling in basketball, football, track, and field. He was a strong contributor to his high school teams (Stamford High School) as well as a junior college. Charles would join the United States Air Force and saw the world. Notably, he served in Vietnam in support of the military effort. While stationed in Maine, he met his soulmate, Esther Oneal Yeldell. After being honorably discharged, he would marry his soulmate and move to Washington, DC in 1970.
Charles career journey took him to very interesting places, from security at the National Gallery of Art to The Evening Star Newspaper to joining the Naval District Washington Police. Using his remarkable performance, experience, and education (Masters Degree from Colorado Tech), he rose to rare air. He was a Captain, a Chief and an Agency Director. During this time frame, he served in the Army National Guard in Washington.
In 1971, Charles had one son, Charles Yeldell, Jr. He gained a daughter through marriage, Netgie Michael Yeldell (2007). Charles and Esther were overjoyed by the arrival of their grandson, Charles L. Yeldell, III (the Third) on August 30, 2013.
Charles loved to run to experiences. Later in life he enjoyed travelling and being in the company of his most beloved. He loves to spoil his daughter-in-law and grandson and took great pleasure in seeing them smile. He was a mentor and superhero to his son. He was the helping hand when people needed it. He was the reality check for folks that asked. He loved people honestly and with integrity.
Charles leaves behind his son, Charles Yeldell, Jr.; loving daughter-in-law, Netgie Michel Yeldell; beloved grandson,. Charles L. Yeldell, III; brother, Don Yeldell and sister-in-law, Yvetra Yeldell; sister-in-law, Carnell Stephens; brother-in-law, Louis Campbell; significant brothers, Gregory Starke and Pat "Clem" Evans; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
