Obituary

Ms. Christine M. Chamberlin, 92 of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021 at her residence.  She was born in Wilson, NC to the proud parents, Bessie Harrison and Sidney Lucas.  When she became an adult, she married Matthew Moore Sr.  They had six children, Emily, Carl, Janet, Sylvia, Matthew, and Richard.  Her children were the focus of her life.  She made sure that they would be law abiding and productive members of this society.  She made sure they attended school everyday.  Even though she had only a 6th grade education, she would help them read and write.  I can remember how she would use flash cards to help us with learning how to spell.  Her oldest daughter Emily would make the honor roll.  She would also take her six children to church with her.  I remember her taking us shopping to buy Easter clothes.  It was a big task on her part, but she knew that going to church would build moral character in her children.  It worked, none of her children went to jail.

My mother was big on education and having a positive outlook on life.  Because of her love and devotion all her children finished High School.  Emily, Janet, Matthew, and Richard have a Bachelor of Science Degree.  Sylvia has an Associate Degree.  Carl went straight to working after graduating high school.  And because my mother instilled good work ethics in her children, they are now all retired. Richard, the youngest, has one more year of employment with the Florida School System.  Christine did outstanding work with her children.

The way she taught us how to stay on task and reach our objectives was she monitored us while we were doing chores around the house.  There were six of us, and we all had a day to wash the dishes.  When we finished washing the dishes, she would come and inspect the dishes.  If they were dirty, she would make you wash them all over again.  But she was nice about it.  She would ask you what technique you used to wash the dishes.  Then she would show you a better way to wash the dishes.  Her loving ways of teaching helped me throughout my life.  When I do a task, I always look for a better way to complete the task.  She said, when she was an eleven-year-old girl, she would clean white folk's houses.  My mother lived with me for the last five years of her life, and she could clean the kitchen spotless at age 92.

The one thing I am going to miss is her great cooking.  During the holidays, she would cook some of out of this world good tasting food.  I don't know how she did it.  She would be in the kitchen for at least 6 hours.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day were special days at our home.  I will never forget how our family came together and enjoyed each other.  She made our life wonderful, even though we lived in the Projects in Newark, NJ.  We were living on welfare, public assistance.  With my mother's LOVE AND CARING, I never felt poor.

SHE WAS A SUPER, SUPER MOTHER- WHO WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
